The Sweetest Job began in 2016 when the Queensland strawberry industry began to identify a series of risks that could see their international workforce greatly effected, risking fruit being left in the field. Regional Development Australia Moreton Bay, along with group of passionate partners, engaged Stones Throw to develop a workforce development and marketing strategy to re-engage the local workforce on the strawberry farms - this was the birth of The Sweetest Job.
This hugely successful campaign saw over 2,200 local people register for the opportunity to work on local strawberry farms. 150 of these candidates were placed on farms, raising local engagement on our partner farms by approximately 300%.
The 2016 campaign identified the need and desire of local workers to be trained and qualified in Agribusiness, with over 850 candidates identifying that they would enjoy a career in Agribusiness, and would like to recieve skills and training in the field.
With the support of the Queensland Government, through the Skilling Queenslanders for Work program, Regional Development Australia Moreton Bay has secured 120 places to train, qualify and place passionate candidates into Agribusiness careers throughout Moreton Bay and the Sunshine Coast. This program will run throughout 2017 and aims to once again have a significant impact on local businesses and jobseekers.
